FAQs
Who can make a referral?
Anyone may make a referral to GBC Behavioral Health Hospital. You can reach out for yourself, a loved one, a patient, or a client.
How does the admissions process begin?
The admissions process begins with a confidential assessment conducted by our care team.
Is there a cost for the initial assessment?
No. The assessment is provided at no cost and helps our team understand the individual’s needs and determine the most appropriate level of care.
What will I need to wear?
3 changes of clothing. A washer and dryer are available in each unit to wash clothes as necessary. Casual clothing is recommended.
What things should I pack?
- Three casual outfits suitable for everyday wear. Avoid clothing items with drawstrings or offensive/inappropriate graphics or logos.
- We recommend slacks or jeans paired with comfortable shirts or tops, as well as comfortable, modest-length dresses. Short dresses, very short shorts, or excessively low-cut shirts revealing cleavage are not permitted.
- A 3-5 day supply of underwear and socks. Please be mindful that tube socks or leggings are not allowed.
- Two pairs of comfortable shoes without laces. Boots are not permitted, and open-backed slippers are discouraged due to a high risk for falls.
- A light jacket or sweater without drawstrings or hoods.
- Personal toiletry items, such as a comb, brush, deodorant, toothbrush, and toothpaste. The hospital can provide toiletries if needed.
What things should I leave at home?
- Electronic devices such as mobile phones, MP3 players, radios, e-readers, laptops, tablets, and corded items like alarm clocks.
- Makeup, aerosol cans, glass/aluminum containers, mirrors, products containing alcohol, as well as flat irons or curling irons.
- Jewelry and other valuables.
- Large amounts of cash (children and adolescents are not allowed to use vending machines, so money is not necessary).
- Clothing with drawstrings like sweatpants, running shorts, hoodies, pajamas, etc.
- Belts (pants should fit enough so that they don’t sag or fall).
- Pillows, blankets, and stuffed animals.
- Outside food and drinks (the hospital will provide meals and snacks).
- Luggage, which should be taken home by family or friends upon admission. If luggage is left, it should be labeled for storage.
What should I do with my medication?
Not all home medication is allowed. Medication allowed from home has to be approved prior to admission.
What are the facility storage procedures?
Residential staff must be notified at the nurses’ station when patient belongings are brought into or removed from the unit. This helps maintain a secure environment and reduces loss. Any prohibited items will be stored in a storeroom, placed in the unit safe, or sent home to family or friends.
